Recommendations to Significantly Reduce Illegal Dumping in Pennsylvania Set to be Released 

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is set to release its Recommendations to Significantly Reduce Illegal Dumping in Pennsylvania at the Pennsylvania Keystone Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) 16th annual fall conference on September 3.

This document presents the results of an analysis of data collected from surveys of illegal dumpsites and cleanups in Pennsylvania and outlines the steps from fact finding through analyses to final recommendations.

A copy will be available in September and a webinar will be scheduled to discuss the recommendations with affiliates this fall. 

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful will also be presenting the Recommendations to the Joint Legislative Conservation Committee in Harrisburg on October 6.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Welcomes Board Members

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is excited to welcome Sean McMenamin and Rod Fye to the Board of Directors.  Sean McMenamin serves as Vice President and General Counsel for McMenamin Family ShopRite. Rod Fye is the Ordinance Enforcement Officer with the Centre County Refuse and Recycling Authority.

 

"Both individuals bring a fresh perspective and I know they will be assets to the organization," states Shannon Reiter, President of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

Bridgestone Tires4Ward 

Bridgestone Tires 4Ward is an initiative that provides for free tire collection and recycling to local, state, and regional grassroots community groups. As part of Bridgestones sustainability initiative, they have recycled more than 70,000 spent tires. To request tire recycling support visit

Litter Free School Zone 

With the new school year upon us, we would like to ask for your help with the promotion of the Litter Free School Zone Program. If you are making education presentations, please consider including information about this valuable program designed to encourage students to keep their school grounds litter-free and to raise their awareness of litter and how it affects the world around them. Keep Bedford County Beautiful Receives Grant

Congratulations to Keep Bedford County Beautiful who received $5000 From REI to assist in stewardship efforts along the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River. Grant funds will be used for tire recycling, roll-off container rental, trash hauling, landfill fees, cleanup supplies and equipment, and volunteer support.

 

Troy Bilt Giveaway

This year, as part of the Great American Cleanup initiative, Troy-Bilt donated (3) front line tillers, (1) gas push mower, and (3) sets of 5 hand trowels + 5 hand cultivators. We want to hear from you -- if your Affiliate or a local organized group is in need of any of the items, please submit an email stating the need. Affiliates can keep the tools for program work or use them to create or strengthen a partnership. Send your request for consideration to Heidi Pedicone or 877-772-3673 x109 by August 15.  

Mailing/shipping these items is not an option. We can coordinate a convenient half-way meeting location or items can be picked up at the Greensburg office. 

 

 

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful PSA's Available 

In partnership with the Ad Council and Keep America Beautiful, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful has localized two Public Service Announcements (PSA) as well as billboard artwork targeted to motivate Americans to recycle every day. The “I Want To Be Recycled” campaign, reveals that everyday products, whether an aluminum can or plastic bottle have the potential to become something bigger when recycled.

The PSA's and billboard artwork are available to Affiliates. If you have a media partner who will run the PSA or are able to get billboard space donated, let us know and we will forward the files needed. Contact Stephanie Larson or 877-772-3673 x104.

International Coastal Cleanup  

The 2014 International Coastal Cleanup will be held from September 1 through October 31. Eligible site locations include communities, neighborhoods, streams, rivers, lakes, roads, hillsides, and parks...ALL trash can reach our waterways!! Keep America Beautiful National Awards

The 2014 KAB National Awards Program is open! Applications will be accepted throughout the summer and early fall for all awards. The deadline for application submission is October 1, 2014.

Keep America Beautiful recognizes and honors the work of partners across the country whose commitment to community improvement delivers more beautiful, cleaner, and improved neighborhoods and public spaces annually.  Once again, KAB will be offering multiple affiliate, partner and individual awards honoring those who have done the best to give back and create more vibrant and sustainable communities.  If your affiliates has a strong partner or individual volunteer that you would like recognized, visit www.kab.org/awards for an overview of the awards process as well as applications.

National Planting Day: Registration for National Planting Day is now open with a national focus on September 6 and activities happening throughout the Fall! Please be sure to register your events this Fall.

Recycling at Work: If you would like to help promote Recycling at Work locally visit www.recyclingatwork.org/program-marketing.

ARD and Recycle-Bowl: Registration for America Recycles Day and Recycle-Bowl will open on August 1.
