LITTER FREE SCHOOL ZONE - With schools returning to in person learning and Earth Day quickly approaching, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful invites all public and private educators to consider enrolling their school in the Litter Free School Zone program. This comprehensive program encourages students to take an active role in protecting and improving the environment through litter cleanups, beautification and community stewardship. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful provides a sign and the school commits to organizing two cleanups or beautification events per year. Find the Litter Free School Zone program and other Earth Day activities, tips and resources at Tools for Schools.

PICK UP PENNSYLVANIA - Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful kicked off its cleanup season on March 1 with Pick Up Pennsylvania. This annual community improvement initiative includes litter cleanups, illegal dump cleanups, community greening and beautification, special collections and public litter education events. Register your event from March 1 through May 31, and receive free cleanup supplies courtesy of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, PennDOT and Keep America Beautiful, as supplies last. Trash disposal, free or at a reduced rate, also available to registered participants, is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association from April 1 through April 30.

IN MEMORY OF SNAKEGUY - Robert ‘Snakeguy’ Habegger adopted James Sharp Landing in Sharpsburg Borough through the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful program in 2016. Robert participated in other KPB programs too, all to protect the waterways and wildlife of and for the local community. When Robert died on November 23, Pennsylvania lost a devoted advocate for a clean and beautiful Pennsylvania. Robert was a founding member of the Sharpsburg Environmental Advisory Council (SEAC), that promotes environmental health through borough clean-up events and tree planting. So it seems fitting that the group has stepped forward to assume the adoption in Robert’s memory. Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful thanks SAEC for continuing Robert’s generosity of time and spirit.
