Cigarette Litter Prevention Program - Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful received a $20,000 grant from Keep America Beautiful to continue work with the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program. The program will be in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), focusing on Pennsylvania State Parks. “With our smoke-free beach program now in place at most of our state park waterfront operations, we are seeing a more than 95 percent reduction in cigarette litter in these specific areas,” said DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn.

Pick Up Pennsylvania Fall - A significant portion of waterway pollution originates on land. To prevent litter from ending up in our waterways, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful coordinates Pick Up Pennsylvania, in support of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup. This annual event is an opportunity for Pennsylvania residents to improve their neighborhoods by coordinating or participating in a litter cleanup. This year’s program runs from September 1 through November 30. Registration opens August 1.

Special Collections - Most, if not all bulky waste pick-ups and special collections of electronics, tires and appliances were postponed until late summer or fall due to the pandemic. Now that most counties are in the green, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful affiliates are planning collections of hard to dispose items as a convenient, low cost option for local residents to dispose of their bulky items properly.
